The Nia Technique is a body - mind fitness and lifestyle movement practice.  Nia simultaneously addresses the body, mind, emotions, and spirit, and puts them on the “same page.”  Nia uses physical activity to integrate one’s neurology (including the mind, emotions, and spirit), with one’s outer body, or musculature.  Nia addresses the whole person, using a comprehensive and carefully designed combination of nine classic movement forms; Jazz dance, Modern dance, Duncan dance, Aikido, TaeKwon do, Tai Chi, Yoga, Alexander Technique and the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais.  Nia is a beautiful and seamless blend of the energy, sensations, steps, stances, movement patterns and philosophy of each of these forms.

Nia is done barefoot to music and delivers cardiovascular and whole-body conditioning.  Because Nia is self-guided and based on creating a loving relationship with the body and following The Body’s Way – the innate intelligence of the body — it is adaptable and safe for any fitness level, from beginners to highly fit athletes.

Nia's body-mind approach incorporates East-West philosophy… visual and sensory language...versatile choreography…eclectic and healing use of music and sound...expressive and emotional interpretation of movement as well as teaches you how to physically interpret and internally direct your actions and choices.
